My first, and last, 5K

On April 16th I did something I thought I would never do...I (pseudo) ran a 5K. You see, it's global month of service and we are doing a lot of fun community service events with Starbucks. As a district, all of the store managers had committed to participating in the Joe P Rally Run to benefit childhood cancer research. I intended to walk the 5K because I am terribly out of shape and had not trained to run at all. Plus, it was a very cold day. However, all of my friends were running so I let myself be peer pressured into running. I definitely walked quickly for a good portion of the race, but I still ran a lot. And it was horrible, I might add. I do not understand you people that run for "fun." My final time was 43 minutes, which I decided was decent considering a) I walked part of it, b) zero training, c) out of shape, and d) NOT a runner. Oh, and I was sore and whiney for a good three days afterwards, pathetic. Perhaps I should look into getting in shape and making this a healthy habit of mine. Probably not, though.

A List...

I am a list lover.  And since today marks 30 weeks into my pregnancy with 10 weeks to go (holy cow), I thought it was high time to make a list of things to do before baby arrives!  To make myself feel better about how behind I feel like we are, I have added some things that we have already completed just so that I could cross them off!  Neurotic?  Yes, but necessary for sanity!

Before Baby Bird Arrives:
Tour hospitals
Pick a hospital
Pre-register at hospital
Take childbirth classes (registered, they start Tuesday!)
Take lactation classes (registered)
Pick a pediatrician
Put together storage shelves in laundry room
Move upstairs closet contents to storage shelves
Find a place to store extra furniture from baby's room
Purchase a crib & set it up
Clean & organize our bedroom to make room for pack & play
Set up pack & play in our bedroom
Wash all baby bedding/clothing & find a place to store it
Teach Gus "off" & "shut up"
Write & mail all thank you notes from all showers
Send in FMLA/Short-term Disability papers
Save $ for during Short-term Disability
Clean out freezer & come up with storage solution for breast milk
Get a prenatal massage
Celebrate 4 year anniversary
Practice Bradley Method exercises daily
Finalize birthing plan and discuss with Dr. Haney
Pack hospital bags
Purchase & install car seat

There ya have it!  I am sure there is more that I could add to this list, but I am going to stop now before I have a panic attack.  I am hoping to get some things accomplished today and I know that Ryan will work on some things while I am away next week.  I should also be able to cross some things off after the consignment sale!

dreams

i have always had a very vivid and bizarre dream life. lately, my crazy dreams have been few and far between. mostly, they have been about work and angry customers and not hitting goals etc. however, last night i had one of the strangest dreams i have had in a long time...

mary and i were driving down dawn hill rd in siloam springs, ar on our way to the house my parents owned for the majority of my growing up years (they no longer live there, or in the same town).

i saw some dogs playing near the street and advised mary to be careful as to not hit them. then i realized it was gus and cleo (my parent's dog). we pulled over and got them into the car with us. a mile or so later i saw ryan in his trooper driving in our direction, we stopped and told him we had the dogs and all proceeded on our way to the house.

there was a tree that had fallen over into the road, it was huge--like the giant redwoods or sequoyahs or whatever they're called. so, we drove over it of course. in mary's mercury sable.

once we got to my parents house it was actually a chicken farm (quite normal in arkansas, but my parents are not chicken farmers). and of course my dad needed some help because the chickens had gotten out. i was horrified, because i am scared of all birds. i looked outside and all of the chickens were solid black and creepy like big vultures--except they were chickens.

i awakened suddenly and was scared for a second (the birds were really creepy) and then i started laughing hysterically. what a crazy dream. however, it is nice to wake up laughing.
