Backtracking: JBU Homecoming

A few weekends ago we made a super quick trip to Arkansas to see family and attend our college homecoming!

We were so thrilled to be able to see so many members of both of our families, Ryan's parents even drove out from Colorado!

Every year Ryan plays in the alumni rugby game at school and this year was no exception. The alumni have won seven years in a row now! It's always so much fun to relive all of the old games and see so many friends. We were truly blessed to attend such a wonderful school and I love getting to see so many of my old mentors when we go back.

The only pictures I have from the trip are from the rugby game. My phone crashed last week and I lost everything that wasn't backed up, fortunately I had sent these to Ryan. :)

It was a lot warmer than I packed for so I had to make Liam a shirt. The front said JBU Old Boys and I thought it was pretty cute!

I love this picture of Liam with his Papo and Great Grandpa Doug!

Liam's Latest

This little boy cracks us up! Lately he has been obsessed with the wipes container. He has so many toys that I'm banning anymore as future gifts (that means you, grandparents) :) but he spends his time trying to get the wipes down to play with!

He also is apparently a bit of a stripper! I came in to get him after his morning nap and found him half clothed! He must have really been wiggling a lot!

We love this little baby so darn much and are enjoying this stage of his life immensely!

One Year Check-up

Liam had his one year check-up this morning and I wanted to record his official measurements here!

He weighs 22 pounds 10 ounces, 50th%, and is 29 3/4 inches long, 50th%. His head is 47.2cm, 75th%. He is developing right on track and our doctor seemed pleased with all of his progress.

He did have a to get a couple of shots and he was not too happy about that! He's taking a good long nap now to hopefully sleep the grumps away!

Happy Homecoming Day, Liam bird!

10/01/10 may have been Liam's birthday, but 10/10/10 was the day he came home from the NICU! We are still so thankful that he only had to stay nine days! When we came home from the hospital, Liam weighed 4 pounds 13 ounces--he almost weighs 20 pounds more than that today!

Party Recap!

We had a small (tiny actually) party for Liam on Saturday and I thought I would share some highlights for our families! I didn't really do an awesome job of taking pictures, but I have a few for ya!

First of all, here is the invite that we used. My talented sister, Stacey, made them for me from a mix of an invitation I found on etsy.com and a shutterfly invitation. I absolutely love how they turned out and love that we were able to send these to our families who all live far away and couldn't make it, at least they have all of these pictures!

In keeping with the owl theme, I made these cute little felt owls from instructions I found on pinterest. I thought they turned out really cute, and I can use them in Liam's room!

I also got it into my head that we needed to make tissue paper pom poms. After my first attempt, I threw in the towel. But my sweet husby encouraged me to try again and helped me with the tedious folding and it worked! We were really pleased with the outcome and will be hanging these in Liam's room as well, yay for decorations that match the nursery! Ryan actually made the two white poms on his own, he's so crafty and cute!

My sweet, and incredibly talented sister-friend, Miriam, made Liam his birthday onesie! I am in love with it! I think he looked so sweet! And yes, he is teething like crazy right now, poor little guy!

For food, I busted out my handy dandy chocolate fountain! It's always a hit! We had strawberries, rice krispy treat balls, pretzels, GF oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and marshmallows for dipping. I also made savory monkey bread, which I am addicted to. It's a good thing that Ryan is GF and I usually follow the diet with him so I have no excuse to make this again for a long time! We had lemon-mint water and iced coffee floats to drink (again, no pictures...sorry).

There was, of course, birthday cake! It turned out very cute, but had to be sent back to the bakery for some alterations!

Liam definitely enjoyed his first taste of cake! I think he would have eaten the whole piece if we would have let him! We did get a "smash cake" for free with the purchase of his larger cake, but we decided to freeze it for later since we had a lot of cake and not a lot of people!

Liam cracked us up opening presents! He kept grabbing tissue paper and waving it around, I think he really enjoyed the sound!

We had such a fun day with this sweet baby and were so blessed by those that were able to join us in celebrating the last year!

One.

Dear Liam Bird,

You turned one year old today! I am amazed at how wonderful this year has been and how quickly it has flown by! In the last 365 days you have turned into a little boy full of spunk, and you have turned us into parents. Thanks, little man.

You are growing up so fast! You weigh 22 lbs. 4 oz. (42%) and are 29.5 inches long (43%)! Your body is so strong and you are so wiggly, I sometimes feel like I'm training to be a wrestler when I change your diapers!

You continue to eat like a champ, I'm pretty sure you are already about to eat us out of house and home! This past month we started to slowly wean you to cow's milk. You are still nursing three times a day, but you take one sippy cup of organic whole milk as well. You love to eat anything we give you; and complain loudly when we don't offer something that we are eating. Your favorites are: lentils, bananas, beef & veggie lasagna, yogurt, and squash. I am still making a lot of your food for you and just leaving it more chunky. You eat a lot of table foods when our meals are appropriate for you (we eat a lot of sandwiches and spicy food, I need to cook more mildly for you!).

You are a rambunctious and busy little boy these days! You are constantly on the go, it amazes me that I can break a sweat chasing you around the living room! You are crawling at a "run" and cruising around all of the furniture, I'm sure you will be walking any minute. Bookshelves (we have lots: nerds), the television, and the fireplace are your greatest temptations. Unfortunately, we have to discipline you when you get into those things, you are slowly learning that they are hands off.

You say, "dada" consistently with "mama" and "hi" thrown in occasionally. You are very observant and will watch anything going on around you. I think you like to study us and listen to us talking, maybe you'll just spout out in complete sentences someday! :)

I can honestly say that this has been one of the best, fastest, hardest, most blessed, most tiring, and most rewarding years of my life and I'm sure your dad would agree with me. You are the most joyous baby I have ever been around and I love that your personality rubs off on everyone around you, myself included. I hope that you always know how cherished you are; by us and by your heavenly father. Thank you for an incredible year, little pumpkin pie guy!

Love you forever, and ever,
Mama
